The line up for Boardmasters 2016 is shaping up to be epic, with big names like Chase & Status, Deadmau5 and James Bay headlining the weekend. Every year Boardmasters provides a unique setting and atmosphere that few festivals can rival, how many festivals in the UK can you watch the cream of UK surfing battle it out on golden sands of Fistral Beach then watch some of the world’s finest artists on green sprawling fields of Watergate Bay. I argue that there are few festivals as unique and special as Boardmasters.
With the line up starting to take some real shape we decided to list 5 essential artists to watch out for at this years Boardmasters.
Detroit Swindle was formed in 2011 by Lars Dales (1981) and Maarten Smeets (1982). It all started after Lars – who was programming a few nightclubs in Amsterdam – had to fire Maarten for playing too much underground music. They started talking and found out they had a mutual love for Motown, hip-hop and early house music. It was this familiar ground that led to them making music together and forming Detroit Swindle.
Their unique blend of house music and funk backed up by their motown samples create for a groovy and atmospheric vibe perfect for dancing with a sunset backdrop. Their Boiler Room set acts as proof of this.
The breakthrough act Brit Award nominated band are an explosive blend of rock, lo-fi and psychedelic punk, imagine Best Coast mixed with Nirvana. Although falling short on winning the Brit award they are still very deserving of it, their music is rebellious and energetic and is sure to ignite the crowd.

Another energetic garage rock band hailing from Manchester, UK that bring a similar vibe to the likes of FIDLAR and Hanni El Khatib but with a British twist. A band that is sure to bring the thunder when performing live.

East London raised award winning MC, actor and grime royalty will be gracing Newquay with his presence. There are few people who haven’t heard of Kano for either his steller performance in Top Boy or his infamous track ‘Ps & Qs’. To have the opportunity to see someone of his caliber and prestige in his genre in Newquay is a true treat, so don’t miss out.

Catfish And The Bottlemen
The band that wants it all and will probably get it! They certainly deserve it too, the lads from Llandudno have started at the bottom and are making there way to the very top.
During their early days they used to busk in the streets, they even tried to hand a demo to Serge from Kasabian which he denied but no matter how hard it was and how many knocks they took they persisted and today they are one of the UK’s rising stars thanks to the single ‘Cocoon’ which saw huge national coverage.
They are masters of their craft that have created a splendid and refreshing take on the early 2000s indie rock scene.
