By Kieran Webber

Looe music festival is arguably one of Cornwall’s most exciting events of the year due to its picturesque location, blinding headliners and not to mention the local talent it supports.

This year Clunk will be heading down to dance in the sand, drink good ales and catch new music, so we decided to compile a list of five must see acts during the festival.

Sam Green & The Midnight Heist

Sam Green & The Midnight Heist are a south west based band that blend all the best elements of folk and bluegrass to create a foot stomping, hip shaking escapade that is guaranteed to be fun. If you don’t get your body moving to these guys then you have no hope, they are a truly electrifying band whose live performance is dripping in energy.

Craig Charles

The Red Dwarf and Coronation Street actor is a man of many skills, not only can he fill your belly up with laughter he has an impeccable ear for music when it comes to funk and soul. If you listen to BBC radio 6 then you would have caught The Craig David Funk And Soul Show so you will know what to expect from his slot at Looe. If you haven’t then prepare yourself for an onslaught of funk and soul, a perfect act to dance the sun down too.

William The Conqueror

There is only one word I can use to describe William The Conqueror’s music and that is beautiful, the harmonies that flows through the band backed by soulful plucks of Ruarri Joseph’s guitar. Out of all the artists playing at this years Looe Music Festival this is one act you cannot miss, not only are they fantastic artists but they are local to Cornwall.

The Velvet Hands

Another local band that are soon to blow up nationally due to their snarling vocals and infectious riffs backed by their teenage angst songwriting. They have been compared to the likes of The Buzzcocks and The Libertines, once you have had a few cold ones head to the stage as these guys are guaranteed blow your socks off.

Rews

REWS are a young Irish/London based high energy female rock duo consisting of songstress Shauna Tohill and beat-maker Collette Williams, together they’ve been creating a genuine buzz with their brand of punky alt-rock. These guys are sure to bring the thunder with their powerful riffs and explosive energy.
