The Newcastle based band turned heads with their last single ‘Mannerism‘, receiving attention from a variety of press outlets. It comes as no surprise though as Cat Ryan have a genuine unique flair to their sound and songwriting.
The bands latest single ‘Blessed Through The TV’ is a shining example of their off kilter approach to songwriting. Driven forward by oriental instrumentation and bouncy vocals, it’s daringly infectious.
Mary-Anne, singer/lyricist and multi-instrumentalist explains, “Lyrically the song is packed with metaphors exploring this whilst referring to the original inspiration: being sent an angel figurine (the one that features on the single artwork) from my aunt.”
She continues, “The Pope had done a mass blessing through the television, telling people to hold items up to the tv to be blessed. It didn’t quite make sense to me; it was almost a half-hearted blessing, and this sparked the ideas behind the song”.
It’s this sideways approach to songwriting that puts Cat Ryan ahead of their peers. A genuine and unique creative streak flows through them. It’s going to be exciting to see what they do next.
