Fontaines D.C. have released a music video for ‘The Couple Across The Way’ taken from their #1 2022 album ‘Skinty Fia’, ahead of their UK tour commencing in November
Dublin post-punk band Fontaines D.C. have released a music video for their latest single The Couple Across The Way, a track taken from their UK and Irish #1 album Skinty Fia, which was released earlier this year on Partisan Records.
Directed by Polocho, the video features the band’s frontman Grian Chatten in scenes inspired by an experience that he had whilst he was living in a small flat in North London with his girlfriend.
He describes the real-life scenario that the video was constructed around, saying, “There was this Hitchcock-esque view of an elderly couple across from us. They had these blazing arguments that sent pigeons flying around, and after each one the man in the couple would come out onto this little balcony he had and just breathe for about ten minutes.”
He adds, “I couldn’t help but imagine it as a reflection of myself and my girlfriend in years to come, and ourselves as a reflection of a younger, happier version of them.” To capture this, the video switches its focus between contrasting shots of an arguing elderly couple and a cheerful younger couple.
Last week saw the band make their debut appearance on CBS’s The Late Late Show with James Corden during their North American tour, which continues into October.
Shortly after, they will be performing a string of highly anticipated UK tour dates throughout November and December. This will mark their first return to the country since they invited a fan to perform with them on the main stage of Reading Festival.
