By Kieran Webber

The first time I heard Blue Footed Boobies I was blown away by their shredding solos and heavy riffs, the groovy hip shaking two piece are a musical force to be reckoned with.

We wanted to catch up with them to find out what their influences are and their future plans.

So to start off tell us a little about yourselves, how did you meet? What made you both decide to start a band and why?

(L) Our Dads grew up together and we hung out occasionally when we were young. Taylor moved to Wilmington and I hit him up to jam one day. We had never jammed together but we ended up jamming for hours and it was ON from then.

From listening to your music I hear a clear influence from the 60’s & 70’s hard rock bands are there any particular bands that you feel you draw a lot of influence from ?

(L) I got on Hendrix when i was reeeeaal young and he’s been my biggest influence ever since. Other than Jimi I’d say BB, Albert, and especially Freddie King were my biggest influences.  Zeppelin, Cream, Johnny Winter, and Bob Dylan were also huge for me.

(T) As far as drummers from this time period go, I’ve always loved listening to John Bonham, Ginger Baker, Mitch Mitchell, the list goes on. I’m really into The Velvet Underground, Iggy Pop, Dylan, Zeppelin, Hendrix, all the good shit. Deep down I’ve always aspired to become the Rick Astley of my generation.

In the past couple of years there has been a resurgence of classic rock music (which in my opinion is fucking fantastic) why do you think this is? What is your opinion on it?

Has classic rock ever gone out of style? We love it.

How did you come up with the band name?

(L) One day we were riding in the car and i just spat it out. Blue Footed Boobies it was.

Was being in a band something that you always wanted to do? When did you know and why?

(T) I got my first drumset around the time I was in 4th grade and always had friends over jamming. Never put together anything too serious but I always wanted to form a band for sure.

(L) I’ve always wanted to be in a band and now i am. Its tight.

When you guys get together to record music do you have a certain routine or is kind of more of a spraying your brains into tape?

We do a lot of live recording so we can get a real, authentic sound with minimal overdubs but we also do a lot of studio writing and use experimental recording techniques on a lot of our songs.

If you could collab with anyone (alive or dead) who would it be and why?

(T) I would definitely have to say Lou Reed.

(L) Hendrix without a doubt. He’s the greatest of all time.

Do you have anything in your life that you could absolutely not live without ? What is it?

(L) My Epiphone Casino. Its my favorite guitar I’ve ever owned and its my most prized posession.

(T) Meat and potatoes.

At your shows has any gnarly shit ever gone down?

Nothing too gnarly besides a little mosh here and there.

Do you have a particularly memorable gig?

Packing out Banks Channel at Wrightsville beach was sick plus free beer for everyone and the hook from our boys at Roark Revival was tight. And playing with ASG on halloween was way rad too.

Any plans for a Euro trip one day?

Forsure hopefully in the near future.
