Singer-songwriter Katie Melua releases her newest single ‘Those Sweet Days’, the second offering from her forthcoming album ‘Love & Money‘, out March 24th. Last month Katie announced her up-coming album, and UK and EU tour with another new track, ‘Golden Record’.
Katie has a wonderful talent for taking simple, everyday human feelings and making them feel beautiful. Anyone familiar with modern classics such as ‘The Closest Thing to Crazy’ or ‘Nine Million Bicycles’ will already know how Katie’s soft vocals, poetry-filled lyrics, gentle piano and delicate guitar create a fuzzy, warm feeling of being compassionately understood. ‘Those Sweet Days’, however, offers a refreshing take. Katie is pushing back against the romantic idealism that forms the language of love in so many pop songs. Instead, ‘Those Sweet Days’ speaks of the joy of doing nothing and coming to terms with the internal struggle of balancing work and learning to take time out for yourself.
Speaking about the single, Katie says, “It’s a celebration of going easy on yourself[…] I’ve never agreed with those who have said if you take a break people will move on[…] I prefer the idea that people need to be missed a little. All living things need to recharge.”
‘Love & Money‘ was recorded in the summer of 2022 while Katie was pregnant with her son and is full of themes of gratitude, positivity, self-acceptance, and attempting to let go of “that background belief that happiness carries less weight than its opposite”.
