The Glaswegian trio have returned with their first new single in over a year, in the form of ‘Over’, an electric alt-pop cut leaning into eighties aesthetics while retaining a modern edge

CHVRCHES have teamed up with production heavyweight Oscar Holter (Charli XCX, The Weeknd, BTS) for this track, with Holter’s slick pop brand laying a glitzy foundation to the anthemic single. Lush synthesisers bounce around, atop of a classic eighties drum sound, propelled by raucous guitars. Lauren Mayberry’s vocals are as clean as ever, her vocal timbre surprisingly unique when placed in the current alt-pop sphere. The band retain their watertight knack for writing bold, arena-ready tracks, with ‘Over’ introducing an exciting new era.

Though there are no concrete announcements for a new full-length, with the band simply releasing this new single “to give the fans something new”, it is still an excellent moment for CHVRCHES, and excited whispers of a potential new project are more vibrant than ever.
