I am a Journalism student based on the north coast of Cornwall. Having grown up a stones throw from Boardmasters , I have always been immersed in live music. When I’m not listening to my embarrassingly vast vinyl collection you’ll probably find me surfing at my local.

King Isis is back, blessing us with new single ‘Taste of U’, which will join last year’s sensation ‘4leaf clover’ on King Isis’ debut EP

‘taste of u’ takes a deeper dive than ‘in my ways’, drawing from the theme of being hindered by our own bad habits, but exploring them under the spotlight of all-consuming romance.

King Isis explains: ‘taste of u’ is about entering a void of a blurring intoxication with another. It’s knowing something is bad for you but despite warning signs and red flags still chasing an illusion to escape your own delusion.”

King Isis draws on her rich desire to experiment with sound in ‘taste of u’. We are immersed in this journey from the first lyrics “welcome to my show of my intoxication” which are accompanied by a slow tempo drum beat and consistent guitar strum. The consistency feels much like the sanity as the lyrics take us on a journey of the realisation that these all-consuming emotions are explosive:

“Caught in infatuation, Thought I was done with chasin’ Your drunken fascination”

As we enter the chorus, the vocals take a turn, becoming tinny and muffled. We see King Isis enter the realms of an inner stream of consciousness and battle with logic and love. “I’m drowning, and I do it just because now I’m stained with you”.

Though with a different focus, both ‘in my ways’ and ‘taste of u’ explore the unanimously relatable cycle of being stuck in the firm grips of your own bad habits. King Isis is leading the way with her effortlessly experimental lyricism that is firing her own creative revolution.
