Hope Is On The Horizon As Government Announces Easing Of Lockdown Plans
Can you smell that? That, my good friends is the smell of hope, or perhaps sweet scent of overpriced festival cider. Either way, it’s a signal that we may just find ourselves reunited in a festival field this summer.
We’ve been in lockdown, or some form for near a year now and in that time there has almost been no live music, apart from the occasional livestream or socially distanced show.
It’s been a long road and it’s safe to say we have been waiting for the news, or at the very least a date to as when we can clink glasses, roll in the grass and enjoy some live music. On Monday (February 22nd) Boris Johnson announced that by June 21st, if we pass the for contingency tests, all restrictions will be lifted. This means that festival season has been given an amber light, that is hopefully going to turn green. The four steps are as follows, the success of the vaccine rollout, the effectiveness of vaccines, how the NHS is coping with the current infection rate, and any potential threats from new variants. So, although this is good news, there are still lots of variables that could change the dates, fingers crossed that’s not the case.

If you’re chomping at the bits then you can also go to a small capacity show on May 17th as big events and sports stadiums will be able to reopen with capacity limits – up to 10,000 attendees. In addition to this indoor events will be allowed up to 1,000 people or 50 per cent capacity.
So, there you have it, the light at the end of the tunnel seems to be in place. In the meantime, let’s follow the rules, keep the numbers down and most importantly be kind to one other. Hopefully, we will see you all soon at a festival or gig.
