Behind The Lens With Rob Booth

Words: Rocky Poole | Images: Rob Booth

In the small town of Newquay, tucked comfortably behind the lens, lives local photographer Rob Booth. Rob first picked up a camera back in 2010 and found his feet through the eye of a lens from then.

After winning Asda’s ‘Britain’s most beautiful view’ competition Rob has since then has a string of success, with photos of the Cornish Surf scene, Robs images have featured in magazines such as Carve, Wavelength, The Sun and Real Surfing mag. Working for the town council by day, you may find this hardworking character grafting away at the jobs others decline, but by early afternoon, Rob is found at the face of some of the most beautiful scenic locations in Cornwall.

Being a photographer ĀRob is the first to be up and about at first or last light, to catch the sunset or rise, capturing effortless images of the most spectacular sights. Rob moved from Nottingham to Cornwall, then to Newquay with no more than 2 backpacks, half a dozen cameras and a dream. This dream was then put to practice and made a reality. ‘ The ocean won ‘ Āmaking his move an easily made decision. Some may say. It’s simply a photography business… But to Rob, it’s a passion, a life and a pure drive. You see, it’s not just ‘taking photos’ Ā it’s the days that surround the shoots. TheĀ adventures along the way and the magic you capture from beyond the lens.

From Boardmasters Festival, to Local ale festivals, from coast, to concrete, from the Surf, to the streets, Rob is guaranteed to be present, taking snap shots of some of the most memorable sights around. Rob works with some of Newquay’s biggest names in the surf scene. Taking photos of local legends and young Stoke searching shredders! Beyond the lens images have featured on allĀ kinds of websites and social media accounts such as Osprey, Urban Beach, Drift Surfing magazine and LongBoarder UK magazine.

I’ve been lucky enough to work alongside Rob and I have to say, some people in life can make even the cloudiest of days bright, making you realise that life is one huge adventure where you have to take risks. You have to explore. Take the leap and follow your heart.
