Back with another outstanding song, London based singer / songwriter Mellah (Liam Ramsden) has released his latest single ‘Hitchin’, taken from the forthcoming debut album due for release next year. Renowned for his thought-provoking and haunting storytelling, Mellah has released a number of highly acclaimed songs, and this one certainly won’t disappoint. Unveiled by Radio 1’s Annie Mac on 6th October, and chosen as her Hottest Record, ‘Hitchin’ is set to establish Mellah’s prominence as a unique and talented songwriter.
The track opens with layered, melancholic vocal harmonies before taking the listener on an emotive, but strangely uplifting journey into self-reflection. Mellah explains that “‘Hitchin’ is about relinquishing control. Forever pining and searching and digging for contentment, meaning and joy when in reality it’s in your back pocket, all you need to do is stop looking for it to notice the free ride.”
Musically, ‘Hitchin’ reveals Mellah’s ability to integrate indie-pop with a bluesy texture and somehow successfully throw in a dash of 80s synth keys to the mix. The layered guitar section gradually builds the tension throughout the track. The hypnotic slide guitar compliments the melodic lead section and strong rhythm from the acoustic guitar, all adding to the bittersweet atmosphere.
Vocally, Mellah successfully expresses the sentiments of song, combining soft spiritual tones with harsher passionate harmonies that blend well to create an almost chant-like ambiance. He sings with total conviction and fervour.
This catchy and immersive single will catch the attention of listeners looking to follow a serious songwriter who is not afraid to tackle the social and emotional aspects of life. His intriguing and unique style of writing is sure to elevate his fanbase during 2021.
Mellah is headlining London’s Scala on 11th February 2021.
