Singer/songwriter Holly Humberstone drops bittersweet and beautifully sad new single ‘Room Service’ ahead of her debut album in October
‘Room Service’, the new single from Holly Humberstone, was written during her world tour, moving between hotel rooms and missing home. This perhaps explains the mood of the song, both melancholic and romantic.
The track is entirely carried by only a soft acoustic guitar and Humberstone’s soft-spoken vocals. The production is dreamy, matching this perfectly.
This lack of distractions leaves the songwriting bare in the open, adding to its sensitivity and vulnerability. Humberstone sings “And some day, we’ll look around to see we’ve lived another year. Someday I’ll fill the calendar with plans for you my dear”. The lyricism is heartbreaking, romantic and nostalgic.
The subtle vocal harmonies layered onto Humberstone’s voice are gorgeous and necessary, never drawing our attention away from the beautifully simple melody. The music video, filmed on a webcam in a hotel room, feels as intimate and delicate as the songwriting.
Debut LP ‘Paint My Bedroom Black’ is out on 13th October via Polydor Records.
