Chicago indie rock band Slow Pulp announce news of their new album, ‘Yard’ and drop new video for lead single ‘Slugs’

Following on from their debut album, ‘Moveys’ in 2020, Chicago band Slow Pulp return with the announcement of their sophomore album ‘Yard’, out on 29th September.

The album promises a bigger sound and a combination of influences, from americana to piano ballads to pop-punk. The album will tackle themes of isolation and self acceptance.

Alongside this announcement, the band have dropped new single Slugs‘, a slow-moving and warm indie tune. Reminiscent of Alex G in its nostalgic sound, the single is confident but understated, fuzzily romantic but not saccharine.

In fact, adding to this romance, the band revealed that the chords are from a song written by guitarist Henry Stoehr for his 6th Grade crush. Vocalist Massey says: “I think it’s so sweet that the song found this full circle moment in the timelessness of different types of firsts in love.”

Sonically, the track is cosy, buried under layers of soft distortion and fuzz. It’s a welcoming track, with just enough experimental elements to keep us curious for what the full length project will sound like. Massey’s vocals are softly romantic as she sings “you’re a summer hit / I’m singing it”. There’s a youthful innocence to the lyrics that adds to the charm.
