Wide Awake Festival returns to Brockwell Park again this year for more pints and post-punk in the sun. Marking the start of the festival season, the two-day event has some of the hottest acts in the scene set to play. Here are our ones to watch at Wide Awake 2022:
Working Men’s Club – Friday
Playing on the ‘Bugged Out!‘ stage on Friday at 4:15 pm, Yorkshire synthpop band Working Men’s Club was one of the bands we were thrilled to spot on the Wide Awake lineup. Having already seen them play at End of The Road Festival in 2021, they’ve already set a high bar regarding their live performance for us here at Clunk. The band is releasing their next album ‘Fear Fear‘ on July 15th featuring the new single ‘Widow‘, so hopefully, they’ll play a few unreleased songs at the weekend.
Loraine James – Friday
Loraine James takes to the ‘Ransome Note‘ stage on Friday at 6:30 pm, playing just after Scalping. The electronic musician and producer amalgamates improvisational techniques with jazz-rooted sounds to produce something resembling a combination of dance, drill, r&b and jazz. She plays the prestigious Berghain on Thursday evening, so be sure to schedule her into your festival schedule at the marginally less-exclusive Brockwell Park on Friday evening.
Keg – Saturday
Hailing from Brighton, Keg perform a live show like no other. Despite seeing the band perform a handful of times now, we’ll be heading to Brixton bright and early for their 12pm set on Saturday at the ‘Bad Vibrations x So Young’ stage. Following the release of EP ‘Assembly‘ at the end of last year, the band’s popularity has skyrocketed. Catchy singles and an energetic stage presence keep us coming back time and time again, head to their set and you’ll be itching for your next Keg hit too.
Modern Woman – Saturday
Modern Woman‘s sound pulls from a range of influences, varying from post-punk and noise to folk and free-jazz music. Playing a string of European dates already this year, their set at 4:15 pm at the ‘Brixton Brewery‘ stage on Saturday is one not to miss. The London-based band are lined up to play more festivals around the UK this summer, so catch a slice of Modern Woman at Wide Awake and become ahead of their deserving hype.
Amyl & The Sniffers – Saturday
Australian chaos causers Amyl & The Sniffers need no introduction. Formed in 2016, the band have been making waves across the ocean ever since. Drawing on influences from rap, punk and Australian rock music, the band have been on the lips of music lovers and industry folk alike, even more so since the release of the 2021 album ‘Comfort to Me‘. Don’t miss the highly-anticipated set from the band at 7:35 pm on the ‘Windmill Brixton‘ stage on Saturday evening.
