‘Sticky’ is the latest album from near household name, Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes. Since his stints in both the punk outfit Gallows and the big rock sound of Pure Love, Frank Carter has now found his niche somewhere between the two. With the aggro punk and snarl of Gallows mixed with the rock and pop sensibilities of Pure Love, the result is a punk band that’s equally happy singing about love (‘Cupid’s Arrow’) as raging against the state of the last year (‘Go Get A Tattoo’).
Starting with the title track ‘Sticky’, Frank shares the public consciousness in expressing his excitement at getting back out to the gigs and clubs and getting “sticky”. Backed by vicious guitars and a pounding beat, Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes are letting their intentions be known straight out of the gate. Though the drums seem almost electric in their sound which can lead to them feeling like they haven’t got as much edge as an acoustic set, the vocals and guitar take up the baton when it comes to rawness. With guests such as Lynks on ‘Bang Bang’, Joe Talbot from IDLES on ‘My Town’ and Bobby Gillespie on ‘Original Sin’, the pedigree and range of guests is there to show how flexible The Rattlesnakes sound can be.
At times ‘Sticky’ is ready to take on stadiums with its pop-rock choruses and at other times ready to get down and dirty in a dark bar in a bad part of town, this mix of sounds is sure to see ‘Sticky’ take Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes to new heights.
