I work as a photography assistant for prominent rock photographer Jill Furmanovsky, which launched me into taking photos at gigs. I fell in love with the music scene and capturing it in all ways possible. When photos weren’t enough I picked up a pen and started writing about the bands I was seeing. Now I am with CLUNK I can hopefully do that alot more!

Bristol/Manchester duo Getdown Services release their debut album ‘Crisps‘, and guess what? It’s bloody brilliant.
It’s been a long time coming for Bristol/Manchester duo Getdown Services, but the day is finally here. Their debut album ‘Crisps‘ is out now! Released via Breakfast Records, ‘Crisps‘ is a 42 minute riot of irreverent lyrics and 80’s disco sounds. Described as apocalyptic disco, It’s witty, it’s slightly cynical, it gets the body grooving.
We have come to expect excellence from Getdown Services with their singles. ‘Biscuit Tin’s‘ tongue in cheek vibe, and the pure danceability of ‘Come On‘ are just two examples of the duo’s charm. But ‘Crisps‘ delivers so much more.
For instance, ‘The Vortex‘ is a kind of interlude in the album, and has a dreamy feel to it. The female narrator is deadpan in that uncanny-valley-customer-service way. The track serves as a break from the heavy synths, and prepares you for other larger than life tracks such as ‘Helen Back‘.
The 6 minute closing track, ‘Loosen Your Belt‘, is slower than most on the album, and is more psychedelic than disco. Hazy, ethereal, and much like a daydream, the track is a standout.
It does exactly what a closing track should do, it lives in the world of what you just listened to but eases you out of it. The best way I can describe it is being rocked slowly to sleep; exiting the exciting world of play and entering a dream world.
If you’ve never had the pleasure of seeing these guys live you can’t understand how well the album translates to the stage. Their energy is unmatched. Each gig is its own sweaty capsule of fun and entertainment, with the pair always interacting with each other and the crowd in their own wacky way. Their tour kicks off on November 16th, so grab yourself a ticket. It’s sure to be a scream.
