Having been nominated for the Ivor Novello Rising Star Award and YouTube’s next Artist On The Rise, Holly Humberstone returns with her second EP, ‘The Walls Are Way Too Thin‘, to show why she deserves these accolades.
Starting with a very simple piano track, ‘Haunted House’ showcases Holly’s beautiful vocals. As the track builds, so do the vocal tracks ending in Holly almost creating a choir by herself. The title track picks up the pace a little with a slice of 80’s electro pop in the verse giving way to a chorus that doesn’t attack you with volume but instead gives a vocal line that instantly seems recognisable and is gorgeously sung.
‘Please Don’t Leave Just Yet’ is a slow jam that has the same beautiful use of sounds and layers as Bon Iver has been excelling at for years. Being co-written by Matty from The 1975 only adds to Holly’s standing as a name to be heard and remembered.
‘Scarlett’ is a standout track on ‘The Walls Are Way Too Thin’ and it’s little wonder that the track was A-listed by the BBC.
‘The tale of heartbreak’ is set to a stunning electro pop groove that stays subtle and envelopes you with its warmth synth.
‘The Walls Are Way Too Thin’ is a gorgeous EP that shows different facets to Holly’s songwriting, whether in electro or folk, but flows beautifully. At only 21, Holly’s abilities are beyond her years and if this is only the beginning then it’s going to be very interesting to see where Holly goes from here.
