Ocean Alley release their first single of the year titled ‘Deepest Darkness’, a song about love bringing out the best of you in your darkest moments

On Wednesday 25th May, Aussie six-piece psychedelic rock outfit Ocean Alley will be unveiling their first single of the year, titled Deepest Darkness, alongside a W.A.M. Bleakley (Courtney Barnett, DMA’s) directed video. The band are one of Australia’s most exciting touring acts, having sold out tours across the world, as well as playing the likes of Reading & Leeds and Splendour In The Grass.

Deepest Darkness is a love song, despite not being a traditional or predictable stripped-back acoustic ballad, as love songs often are. It begins with guitar riffs that are reminiscent of the band’s sound based on their previous releases, layered with their trademark psychedelic echoing vocals, performing lyrics about how someone can bring the best out of you, even in your darkest moments.

After their 2018 Gold-certified album Chiaroscuro’ placed the band firmly on the map, they went on to take the #1 spot in triple j’s Hottest 100 of 2018 for their double platinum smash hit Confidence’, debuted at #3 on the ARIA charts for their critically acclaimed 2020 album Lonely Diamond’, received Gold certification on five singles, and got nominated for 2 ARIA Awards.

With complex reverb-driven instrumentation, ‘Deepest Darkness’ increases in intensity across each chorus, resulting in a powerful and impactful single that has never-ending layers of intricacy and detail to unpack with each repeated listen. There is no doubt that the single will continue the band’s ongoing string of successful releases since their breakthrough in 2018.
