Liverpool post-punk band STONE release ‘Money (Hope Ain’t Gone)’, a new single and a taste of their upcoming debut EP ‘Punkadonk

Following performances supporting Yungblud and Sam Fender as well as an appearance and Reading & Leeds, STONE are currently touring with Inhaler then The Wombats. They are a very busy band.

This relentless energy is definitely present in their new single, ‘Money (Hope Ain’t Gone)’; its sound is infectious and filled with the power of a live performance.

The track is powered by driving guitars and drums from Elliot Gill and Alex Smith. The production is clean but just raw enough to bring these vital elements the visceral quality that they need. The highlight of the track comes in the pre-chorus breakdown where the band cuts out, leaving only a wavy guitar line, before the tempo slowly accelerates and Smith’s drums build the energy once again into the raucous chorus. This technique builds the listener’s excitement massively and the payoff is definitely worth it.

Fin Power’s vocals are just as powerful as any indie-rock frontman and, co-written with Gill, their lyrics are emotionally effective. Their goal was to share the anxieties they both face while also showcasing “love, hate and hope for the future” and this is all successful.

For the anxiety, see the driving guitars and uneasy acceleration. For love and hope, see the optimistic melody and the infectious energy that never fades throughout.

STONEdebut EP, ‘Punkadonk’ is out this November via Polydor Records.
