Australia’s most Australian export The Chats return with explosive new single ‘Struck By Lightning’
The Chats first rose to fame with their viral hit ‘Smoko’, a song about a tradie cracking a cig during work. It may have been one of the most Australian things to have been shared globally since the video of the Australian teenager ‘apologising’ for a wild house party.
However, since the explosion of that song the band have proved themselves to be one of the world’s most important and exciting punk bands in recent years. Their debut album ‘High Risk Behaviour’ was jam packed with high octane punk music that was simplistic yet highly infectious, this was also carried over into the bands live show.
Now, the band return with new guitarist Josh Hardy and share their first single of 2022 ‘Struck By Lightning’. As expected it’s a fast paced, 100-second blitz that is fuelled by buzzsaw guitars moving at breakneck speed. Not to mention frontman Eamon Sandwith’s biting and Australian tinted vocals.
Speaking on the new single Eamon explains: “’Struck By Lightning’ came about when we were having a jam. I was on the drums, and I just started playing this little pattern, like, ‘struck-by – LIGHT-NIN’!’ I thought, ‘Hmm, that could work’, so I went home and wrote a song about getting struck by lightning, like how you would feel, and what would happen. People can’t grow their hair back and shit,” he adds. “It’s weird – especially the whole no-eyebrows thing. That would be really scary! I’m really hoping that this doesn’t happen to me, now I’ve written a song about it.”
