The New Zealand psychedelic trailblazers continue to excite with the glorious ‘Nadja’
For over a decade now, Auckland’s Unknown Mortal Orchestra have remained a staple of the newer wave of psychedelia, their commitment to innovation continually having them run in their own lane. The band have shared yet another new single ahead of upcoming double album ‘V’, the track in question being the magnificent ‘Nadja’.
Bathed in lo-fi aesthetics and boasting a cinematic aura, ‘Nadja’ is a downtempo moment for Unknown Mortal Orchestra, the cut feeling nostalgic and oozing with melancholia. Ruban Nielson’s unique vocal timbre is always refreshing in the saturated field of indie, the band relentlessly standing out. The track remains steady throughout, bursting into a funk-ready guitar solo toward the back end of the track.
‘Nadja’ rejects some of the more disco, dancefloor elements audible on previous works, but the more stripped back sound works effortlessly for UMO; with yet another wonderful single, this new record is gearing up t be truly excellent.
‘V’ arrives on March 17th via Jagjaguwar.
