The New Zealand Alt-Pop Quartet Yumi Zouma Have Returned With Their Latest Single ‘Mona Lisa’, Out Now Via Polyvinyl
New Zealand based alt-pop quartet Yumi Zouma are back with their new single ‘Mona Lisa’ a soaring pop anthem that seems to be ruminating about wanting someone you can’t have and navigating that uncertain situation.
The song begins with tight layered vocals that almost glisten. It is then instantly contradicted by a low, warm vocal accompanied by a deep bass, subtle lead guitar and high hats. As the song gathers pace, the instrumentation picks up and helps the track drive forward. The chorus’ have a real coming-of-age anthemic vibe, that seems to add light to what is not necessarily a happy subject. The bridge offers a great dynamic shift that strips the song bare to just lead vocals, harmonies and a dreamy accompanying guitar riff, which really helps the final chorus soar along with a super nostalgic sax solo.
This is an utter essential for your dream-pop playlists, be sure to add it!
