At the end of the month (Saturday 28th September) Son-Fest will be making its debut at the Eco Park, Porthtowan. The festival aims to raise money and awareness of Men’s mental health issues and supports the ‘Towards Zero Suicide’ Campaign. The event is in honour of musician and family member Sonny Pettigrew-Collins who passed away earlier this year.
The night will bring an eclectic mix of music that spans a multitude of genres, it truly will be a musical showcase. There will be performances from Andy Quick Band, Hedluv & Passman, Disco Rococo and many many more. All profits from the event will be going towards Man Down – supporting men’s mental health in Cornwall.
Speaking on the event, organisers had this to say:
“We hope to raise awareness of the nature of mental illness – for people to see beyond labels and understand the beautiful people behind these devastating and painful illnesses. Their mental health should not define them…together we hope to reduce the myths and stigma of mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, psychosis and depression, among others.”
There’s a minimum £5 ticket in advance available here, but there will also be the opportunity to give further donations on the door, as well as enter a raffle, featuring some incredible prizes!
This festival is hopefully the start of something beautiful, a remembrance of a friend, supporting of men’s mental health and fantastic music in a beautiful location.
