Sports Team return in triumphant fashion with the new single ‘R Entertainment’, the lead single taken from the bands forthcoming sophomore album
Some say that Sports Team have brought guitar music back to the mainstream and we’re inclined to agree. Their debut album ‘Deep Down Happy’ soared across the land, grabbing the attention of music fans and sending them into a frenzy. The album nearly took the number one spot in the UK Charts but unfortunately Lady Gaga swiped that rug from under their feet. However, the album did get nominated for a Mercury Prize and was the biggest selling debut album on vinyl for a British artist in 2020.
Now, the band return triumphantly with their striking new single ‘R Entertainment’, a rip-roaring indie track that boasts all the best elements of Sports Team. It’s fast paced, layered in irony and observational lyricism, and of course Alex Rice‘s unforgettable vocals (not to mention confidence). The guitars are layered and create a sense of urgency, backed by crushing percussion, it’s a true rock n roll belter. It’s a true statement of a release that further cements Sports Team as one of the best in business right now. The album is no doubt going to be a real tour de force.
Speaking on ‘R Entertainment’ the band say: “The packaging down of all human experience into entertainment, prompted by the infinite scroll through social feeds and the manic formlessness of the images we are hit with every day. Graphic news interrupted by ads for season 17 of The Bodyguard, news as a rubbernecking, passively waiting for the next drop of horror as we flick through recipes.”
