The Bouquets take listeners back to the psychedelic ‘60s with the two tracks from their debut album. ‘Get It Right’ and ‘Transmission’.
The Spring of 2018 in Alabama saw singer and guitarist, Rolfe Briney, looking for musicians to help bring his songs to life. It was then that he met Daniel Hargett, Abby Anderson, and Jackson Gafford, which led to the formation of The Bouquets.
The Alabama band’s eponymous debut album was released earlier this year, which includes the two singles, ‘Get It Right’ and ‘Transmission’. The Bouquets have cited ‘gunslinger-style guitar’ as being a prominent feature on the album and have been inspired by music from the 1950s and the 1960s. This is particularly apparent in the two lead singles from the record.
‘Get It Right’ sounds like the band playing in the ‘60s with music that would be prevailing in the ‘70s. The psych-rock is comparable to Pink Floyd’s 1967 album, ‘The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn’. The Bouquet’s creep into the following decade with hints of Led Zeppelin and David Bowie in ‘Get It Out’.
Described by the band as ‘a garage rock stomper with a heavy surf rock influence’, ‘Transmission’ would not be out of place on an alternative ‘60s playlist. Its trippy guitar riff and eerie organ is also reminiscent of Pink Floyd’s, as well as The Velvet Underground’s work from that period.
The Bouquets have arrived with a strong debut, so it’s exciting to wonder what direction they will go in next. With the return of live music still distant, the Alabama four-piece have plenty of time to write and record some new tracks.
