Scouse quartet, The Kendos, deliver emphatic indie rock in their quintessentially Liverpudlian new track, ‘Rule the Real’.
The Kendos are already an upcoming force in their hometown’s live music scene, featuring in the Liverpool O2 Academy Main Room, Liverpool Guild Of Students and on the Kendal Calling 2020 line-up. It is immediately apparent that their high-energy indie rock will be present in the UK’s live music for a while.
Louis Grover (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Isaac Grover (lead guitar), Nathan Farley (bass, backing vocals), and Tom Welsh (drums) formed The Kendos in the late 2018. They recorded ‘Rule The Real’ in the band’s recording space ‘Kendós Studiós’.
Frontman, Louis Grover, channels a young Miles Kane, as his assured swagger becomes evident in the opening verse of the song. The band have cited fellow Liverpudlians, The Las, as an influence on the track.
“The band is based in Liverpool, and we also rehearse and go to gigs there, usually,” explains guitarist, Issac. “The musical heritage of the city is immense, it’s almost hard to not have it come out in your sound if you’re apart of that scene.”
As the band transition into the Oasis-esque chorus, the dynamic and assertive attitude of The Kendos is driven directly at their audience. Louis demands that his doting crowd sing the lyrics – “so come on, is it too rude to rule the real?” – back at them.
Lead guitarist, Isaac Grover brings track to its peak with a spine-tingling guitar solo that is bound to get people moving. He has also commented on what the meaning behind the song.
“The song is about the people you meet in life who are so absorbed in their own importance, completely disregard others, and fail to put themselves in anyone’s shoes but their own.”
It feels like this is just the beginning for The Kendos, and they plan on kicking on from here to make a name for themselves.
“Now, we want to pump out the content, rehearse a lot, record another tune, and organise a big headline where we can celebrate the demise of the virus.”
This band is certainly one to keep an eye on.
