The band open as they mean to go on; a soulful, bass filled intro definitely foreshadows the powerful blue rock ballad sound the band display.
Certain praise has go to go to the band for releasing such a solid, well put together album and then following it up with a single release of the same stature (the song from the album was clearly well received).
‘Lies & Cigarettes’ is a catchy number that balances angst and calm throughout. The song boasts The Prairie States more mellow side, and their ability to mix blues rock with a douse of psychedelic tendencies.
It was one of those rare tracks that felt fresh with every listen. The lyrical layering involved took the song to the next level and contrast between the vocals on the track really gives a modern sound to what we know and anticipate as country/blues rock.
