The Canadian band hailing out of Edmonton are a true delight, their whimsical guitar pop is something to be adored and is ever so satisfying. After wrapping our ears around the single ‘Don’t Yah Feel Better’, taken from their forthcoming debut LP ‘Slow Wave’ we were eager to chat to the band.

We had a quick chat to frontman Spencer Morphy about the bands music, how they met, their wildest shows and what we can expect from the young band in 2017.

CLUNK: Thanks so much for taking the time to answer our questions, how have you been and what have you been up to?

Spencer: We’ve been good!!! Preparing to rip down to SXSW in a few weeks. I recently spent some time chilling on Vancouver Island, went out surfing and sleepin in my campervan.

CLUNK: How did you guys meet and form The Velveteins?

Spencer: We all met in Edmonton going to shows and at parties and whatnot.

CLUNK: What are your individual influences when it comes to music, was there a particular person or artist?

Spencer: Me personally I like alot of recent stuff, like Pond, Jacuzzi Boys, Daniel Romano – but also the classics like old pop and bands like the Rolling Stones.

CLUNK: What has been your best experiance with The Velveteins so far?

Spencer: We played in England last spring for the first time. It was also my first time ever to the UK so it was really rad. We chilled with some sweet homies and had a very interesting time.

CLUNK: Do you have any funny/gnarly stories from your live shows?

Spencer: Dean periodically pours a full beer on me while I’m playing. That’s pretty gnarly. I’m sure people are weirded out, haha but we just like rippin around.

CLUNK: If you could tour with any band who would it be?

Spencer: It would be sweet to tour with Elton John. Dreams man.

CLUNK: Your debut LP ‘Slow Wave’ is out this year, what can we expect from that?

Spencer: A little bit saucy, a little bit of flavour here and there. Like sweet and spicy barbecue sauce.

CLUNK: Lastly, what can we expect from you in 2017 (aside from the LP) ?

Spencer: We are gunna be travelling alot, all over North America and beyond. So hopefully we can meet you somewhere along the line!!!!

The band’s debut LP, Slow Wave, is released via Fierce Panda (Canada) in 2017.
