Channelling funk frisson and sleazy absurdism, London’s favourite punk wisecracks Warmduscher have dropped the latest single from their fourth record, At The HotSpot
Aptly titled ‘Fatso‘ after the jaded, clock-watching caricature who inhabits its lyrics, Clams Baker describes it as “a song dedicated to taking the time to slow down and sniff the roses, turn off the computer and take in the sunshine.”
The track is the band’s second release under indie label Bella Union and without Speedy stalwart Dan Carey at the helm (who was struck down by an unfortunate bout of Covid). Written over a period of over a year in lockdown, At the Hotspot, produced by Joe Goddard and Al Doyle of Hot Chip, takes the raucous energy Warmduscher solidified on their critically acclaimed 2019 release ‘Tainted Lunch’, and injects it with a slightly more polished, ‘80s funk sound, kind of like stumbling home to your squatted loft after a drunken night at the local disco. It’s crunchy on the outside, smooth on the inside, and might be the most immediately enjoyable music Warmduscher have ever graced us with.
The result is two expertly crafted and wonderfully profane singles, as well as a forthcoming record threatening to ruffle feathers and fill dancefloors in equal measure. You can get your greasy hands on Warmduscher’s ‘At The HotSpot‘ from April 1st.
