Dive into the experimental rock group Puscifer and check out why we’re pumped to catch their debut performance at Download Festival this June.
With the latest announcement of acts for Download Festival’s 20th anniversary this June comes a whole host of bands with one name seemingly standing out amongst the others. Puscifer.
As the article headlines suggests if you like others were left asking yourself who the fuck is Puscifer the you’re not alone. But you can rest easy now as we have put together this article of the bands history, who Puscifer are and why we’re pumped to catch them take to Opus Stage for their debut Download appearance this June.
Formed in Los Angeles by Maynard James Keenan, known as the lead singer of a little old band called Tool and A Perfect Circle. The project initially began with Keenan as the only permanent member with the project being appropriately labelled as his “creative subconscious“. This wasn’t to last however, and Keenan was later joined by frequent collaborators Mat Mitchell and Carina Round who became permanent members.
Keenan describes Puscifer as “simply a playground for the various voices in my head” and after listening to their discography it’s evidently clear that this is the case. Keenan utilises his side project Puscifer to his advantage to create an avenue for the most obscure depths of his musical creativity. Working alongside many different artists over the years their albums have subsequently always provided an infusion of many different ideas and experiences. If you’re looking to take a dive into some one of their more notable projects check out Existential Reckoning : Rewired (Puscifer Entertainment / Alchemy Recordings/ BMG) which is the remix accompaniment to their 2020 album, which itself was a typically avant-garde electro-rock melting pot of futuristic and otherworldly sounds.
But why are we pumped for there performance at Download you may ask? Well besides Tool putting on one of the arguably best headline slots at Download Festival back in 2019 and the fact this will be Puscifer’s debut Download appearance the bands live shows have been described as “a bizarre but wonderfully aural experience“.
With a weekend of hard rock and heavy metal taking in the visuals and theatrical experience Pulsicfer is known for is sure to be a treat for fans both new and old. Maynard James Keenan and Carina Round are known to create unique vocals by using chorus, harmony, and blending both the tonal qualities which in a live show is sure to be a spectacle in of itself.
Finally one of the many secrets held by this experimental group is inside Maynard’s briefcase? Whilst unlikely audiences may finally be given an answer that amongst the many other mysteries the band holds. Only time will tell.
Catch Pulscifer alongside headliners by Metallica (Thursday and Saturday night), Slipknot and Bring Me The Horizo at Download Festival taking place at Donington Park in Leicestershire from Thursday 8th to Sunday 11th June 2023.
