North London-based Yaglander is the setup for artist Joel McConkey. Joel was born in Cardiff and had only the South Wales hardcore scene to impact his musical taste buds. Later on, Joel decided to take himself down to the other side of the UK, to Falmouth, Cornwall. There he enjoyed Cornish bands and Fal scene with bands such as The Black Tambourines and Red Cords. He was also integrated into the scene with Lost Dawn.

Recently Yaglander has released the single ‘The Straight And Narrow’, taken from the titled EP. It’s a Lo-Fi, bedroom pop track that is is backed with a simple yet vigorous drum-beat. A firm and funky lead guitar lit up with some sugar-sweet keyboards. This array of music is finalized by a soft relaxed vocal.

Inspiration from artists such as Wire and The Fall remains large, however, the project would not be standing without the love of pop melody. Artists in the form of Tonetta, Arthur Russell and Ariel Pink had a big impact on Joel. Which is proved in ‘The Straight And Narrow’ and surely will be for the rest of the upcoming music from Yaglander.
