I’m a writer hailing from the distant land of Norfolk. With a deep love for vinyl, currently standing at over 100 in my collection. When it comes to picking a favourite artist, it will always be the sounds of Trish Keenan and Broadcast.
‘Real Tree Lee’ is the sound of Adult DVD at their most unique and observant, operating absolutely in their own lane.
Adult DVD are up and running for the year with the brand new single ‘Real Tree Lee’, a satirical take on the poisonous mindset that is toxic masculinity. The track observes the paranoid antics of a man called Lee. The band are quick to separate themselves from Lee’s actions, stating: “Lee is a guy that we never want to become, let’s make that clear!“. Lee is the brain rot, brainwashed patient zero, who spends his time scouring the “cretin side of the internet”
Accompanying the track is an off-the-wall music video that takes a day-in-the-life look at our Lee, as he goes about his psychotic activities, not exclusive to stealing, blowing up his shed and engaging in police chases.
Every step of the way are the vocals of frontman Harry Hanson, who observes and narrates the madness unfolding: “Real Tree Lee only parties in his bunker”; “he owns a lot of guns but never learned to shoot”.
As you’d expect for such a madcap narrative, the group match it all the way with alert, pulsing electronic instrumentation, three of six members all taking the mantle behind synthesisers. It all goes a long way to making ‘Real Tree Lee’ sound utterly frantic, but only in the best way.
Much like Lee’s shed, the track ignites and climaxes, sounding like a circuit board losing any form of control, more than appropriate for the life of our main character, who doesn’t see his days are tumbling down upon him. ‘Real Tree Lee’ is the sound ofAdult DVD at their most unique and observant, operating absolutely in their own lane.
