Leeds band English Teacher share their new single ‘R&B‘ ahead of debut LP ‘This Could Be Texas,’ out on 12th April

Defying expectations and cultural identity are the motifs in this track, focusing on the kind of music society expects from lead singer Fontaine. The percussion is punchy but leaves space for Fontaine’s vocals, a controlled anger searing through with the defiant lyrics ‘despite appearances I don’t have the voice for R&B.’

Just as the track settles into the tight rhythm, we get a frantic build with more unrestrained vocals and hefty guitar lines. This track follows the release of ‘Albert Road’, ‘Mastermind Specialism’, ‘Nearly Daffodils and The World’s Biggest Paving Slab from the LP.

R&B‘ was originally released in 2021 and re-recorded for the upcoming album, this time accompanied by visuals (directed by Sarah Oglesby and Sodium Films) that echo the 2021 version.

The band are about to set off on their biggest tour yet; coinciding with the album release, English Teacher will be embarking on 15 dates across the UK.
