We headed to hang out with the Positive Music Collective, London’s brand new recorded jam session, for a collaborative celebration of music
The Positive Music Collective is a new recorded jam session, based in London. With musicians and beginners all welcome, this new music event has been designed to bring music to the masses. They had their first event this past Sunday as a kind of test run for things to come. So, in an Agroecological Farm in High Barnet, I sat on a log and shook a maraca while guitars and drums echoed across the field.
The clue is in the name for this event, set to take place monthly at different venues around London. Founders Zak Philip and Isaac Kanu wish to spread positivity and create accessible environments to make music. Each session is set to be recorded, produced, and distributed on their own platform for free.
When I arrived, a kid who couldn’t have been older than 8 years old was freestyle rapping over the chords to Bob Marley’s ‘Buffalo Soldier‘. Later, a young woman sang softly as everyone around her echoed her self-written lyrics. The collective’s objective is to spread joy and, on that Sunday, I truly believe they did.
This first event was designed to beta test for bugs and the like and took place alongside the Grow Farm charity’s fifth birthday. While Musician Marco Ardani joined in with some drumming and chants, the main jammers were families. The next few events will hopefully partner with a studio, and take place indoors!
