Thee Sacred Souls bring their 2024 album ‘Got A Story To Tell’ to the Roundhouse, with support from LA LOM
It’s a rainy February Friday night in London, but inside the Roundhouse it feels more like California in the summertime. The bill for the night was LA LOM and Thee Sacred Souls – both LA native bands which effortlessly drip cool as they play.
LA LOM – the three piece instrumental group – have a very Latin influence to their sound. A bass, a guitar, and a drum kit makes up the band, with the occasional sight of a double bass which came in with a bang. The Los Angeles League of Musicians – yes, that’s what la lom stands for – are all things jazz, bolero, and soul wrapped up together in a juicy West Coast retro vibe. It truly was an amazing set, and a fantastic warm up for the main event.
From the hazy blue darkness backing singers and a flurry of horns jumped into action as Sal Samano, Alex Garcia, and Josh Lane entered the stage. If you have never been to a Thee Sacred Souls gig, you can’t imagine how such soothing music can make for such an electric experience. From jumping up on speakers to gliding around the stage, to teleporting around the crowd, vocalist Lane is one of the great current frontmen.
Rich and vibrant instrumentals accompanied his performance, feeding the crowd’s ecstatic energy – and the audience ate up every single morsel. After a set of songs from their first two albums, including the almost illegally sultry track ‘Love Is The Way‘, the ensemble left the stage. But, as everyone in the room knew, they weren’t done yet. ‘Can I Call You Rose?‘ Is undoubtedly the trio’s most popular song, and it was met with uproarious applause when that trumpet melody began.
This pair of bands made for an unforgettable night. I would easily try to see Thee Sacred Souls again, and I will be on the look out for a La Lom headline set.
