Hi my name is Chea and I dove into the world of band photography midway through 2023. I was really involved in the amazing music scene at uni in Falmouth, making friends with lots of super talented people. After uni I really wanted to explore the vibrant music scene within Belfast and used this creative drive to begin my exploration into the local scene and further my photography.
Im hoping to continue my photography journey further and capture many more great moments with many wonderful people!

Lorde boasted a mesmerisingly intimate show at the AO Arena in Manchester, boasting her pop proweress

Lorde’s show at the AO Arena in Manchester on 15th  November was nothing short of mesmerisingly intimate. From the moment Lorde stepped on stage – barefoot, bathed in a sea of metallic blue lighting she captured the crowds attention. Tracks from her latest album ‘Virgin’ like ‘Hammer’ the opening track, felt charged with a confidence which was ready to make its presence known. Whilst more intimate moments, such as during ‘Liability’, carried a heavy emotional weight that resonated throughout the arena.

Carefully orchestrated tracks and visuals throughout Lorde’s performance helped to create a sincere yet theatrical production. Despite playing in a sold out arena Lorde broke barriers between artist and fan to create a daringly intimate and raw experience. Within Lordes GRWM’ she stripped off her jeans and performed in a pair of Calvin Kleins whilst being filmed by her backup dancer in extreme close up shots. Lorde bore a bear-face with no makeup other than metallic grey streaks across her body. Camera to her body Lorde showcased beads of sweat, body hair and skin imperfections whilst singing through internal conflicts.

Within the show Lorde made statements upon her body and insecurities, a moment saw her backup dancing eating bright green apple, followed by a segment featuring Lorde running upon a treadmill. She showcased her body differently throughout the show, first striping her jeans, and later after a short moment of humility and relatability struggling to put her jeans back on, she stripped her top off with the arena lights darkened. In the darkness at the back of the room Lorde simulated binding, using metallic grey tape to tape across her chest to express her raw self.

The atmosphere felt communal and ecstatic in the arena; quiet within these raw showcase and then electric during standout tracks like’ GreenLight’. Despite the scale of the venue, there was a real sense that Lorde was sharing a piece of herself. Nearing the close of the show Lorde walked through to the middle of the crowd and played ‘Ribs’. An almost magical moment in the concert were everyone had spread out to dance freely and let loose – bodies moving in every direction. A sheer cathartic release was felt as everyone screamed along and moved to the lyrics.
