Seitou chats to us about her latest single ‘Got Your Back’, new era’s and much more

There are few artists like Seitou who with one track could turn a dull, uninfused party, into a rip roaring, vibe infused, success. Her latest single ‘Got Your Back’ is nothing short of vibey, bringing forward an eclectic mix of house, alternative pop, and more. It’s bundled into a confident package that is unapologetically confident, it’s wildly infectious.

After getting our ears around the latest single (many times!) we were eager to chat with Seitou about her new music, the melting pot of sounds she harnesses, and much more.

Kieran: Thank you for chatting with us! How have things been?

Seitou: Life has been incredible, I just landed in L.A from Paris to record with some amazingly inspiring producers. I am enjoying the beginning of summer right before starting a residency at the Montreux Jazz festival in Switzerland.

Kieran: How’s your 2024 been so far? Any highlights?

Seitou: 2024 has been a beautiful year for me, I started releasing music and sharing my work with the world. I would say this definitely marked the beginning of a new era.

Kieran: Your music is such an incredible melting pot of sounds, cultures, and more, so we’re curious to know who are your influences and how have they shaped you as an artist?

Seitou: Artists who have influenced me are : Sade, The Rita Mitsouko, Prince, Janet Jackson. I’m a big fan of the 80’s/90’s Music and I feel like it translates in the music I make today.

Kieran: What are five artists you think EVERYONE should check out?

Seitou: Muddy Monk, Darius, ELOI, Iya ko, Dreamcastmoe.

Kieran: You recently dropped your latest single ‘Got Your back’, can you talk us through this release and what it means to you?

Seitou: I recorded “Got Your back” With the BrownBoyz (producers) In LA. This song is about being able to go all the way when your people, your angels are here to support you 100%. This song is very close to me every time I play it I remember there’s nothing I can’t achieve if I put my heart into it.

Kieran: What does the writing and recording process look like for you?

Seitou: I love writing, it could be spoken words, poetry or a song. I would say I write on a daily basis, it clears my mind. I also love to write lyrics with my guitar. When I’m recording with producers in the studio we create together. As the instrumental starts to appear, lyrics just flow like an evidence. I feel like recording a song is very different than singing live.  I clear my voice, free my body and embody the lyrics.

Kieran: Was anything different done for this release?

Seitou: This is my 3rd single and I feel like as an independent artist I’m still trying to figure out what’s the best way to get my music out there. Every release is different, but every time I have a new song out, I get on my bike and ride in the city playing the song in my headphones. It gives me a feeling of freedom, and I feel proud of all the hard work that’s behind the scenes.

Kieran: Lastly, what else can we expect from you in 2024?

Seitou: More Music, More Love!! I’m going to be releasing more singles I worked on with the BrownBoyz. My first EP, is already recorded so expect consistency in the releases.
