Will Paquin has announced he shall be self-releasing his debut album ‘Hahaha’ on September 12th. To celebrate the album’s announcement, the L.A-based guitarist and singer has released ‘I Work So Hard’, a jump-up bedroom chug interspersed with whimsical vocals. It’s a track that Paquin began writing in middle school and takes an intimate, occasionally manic, look at false productivity. Speeding up and slowing down in unexpected places, ‘I Work So Hard’ evokes the best of deranged garage rock from the 2010’s, such as Ty Segall and Thee Oh Sees.
Written largely on tour whilst navigating a break-up, ‘Hahaha’ is set to capture the tension between the euphoria and sadness of live performance. Paquin says, “It’s almost like a sarcastic ‘hahaha,’ with tears in my eyes.”
As well as taking inspiration from the likes of Ty Segall, the album will also draw from Paquin’s more experimental influences, such a Deerhoof, Can and The Flaming Lips. The title track of the album, which is also out now, hints at more experimental flavours, where Paquin’s vocals become increasingly eccentric over stuttering guitar.
Paquin produced ‘Hahaha’ with long-time collaborator William Levin with mixing and mastering from Nathan Boddy (James Blake) and Mike Bozzi (Kendrick Lemar).
An autumn tour will begin in the US in September and the European leg of the tour will kick-off in November.
Will Paquin’s debut album ‘Hahaha’ will be released September 12th.
