Did a sports journalism degree, write about music instead. Used to sing, now you can find me either at a gig or in the pub in the centre of the universe – Leeds.
big long sun release paranoid folk anthem ‘call it a voice’ ahead of new album ‘love songs and spiritual recollections’ coming in April.
Eight-piece Brighton noisemakers, big long sun, have announced their new full-length album, ‘love songs and spiritual recollections‘, and in turn a stunning new single in the form of ‘call it a voice’.
Labelled by the quirky south-coast octet as a ‘paranoid folk anthem’ – a supremely spot on title for the tune – ‘call it a voice’ is a haunting track, folk from underground.
Championed by the likes of BBC Radio 6Music and So Young, big long sun look to be setting themselves up for stardom with this spooky seventies-inspired hit.
Beautifully fear-inducing vocals intertwine wonderfully, the ever-present guitar parts are a horrifying earworm – ‘call it a voice’ really does have the ambience of a “paranoid folk anthem”, but I’ve never wanted to induce paranoia like this before.
Gearing up for a new album, big long sun look set for a big long, beautiful year after being booked for the likes of End of The Road and their hometown’s big weekend out – The Great Escape.
Charming, addictive and joyously weird, I’d call ‘call it a voice’ just a stupendous short, sweet trip.
