Drummer first and foremost, but will happily give an opinion on anything rock, indie and punk related.

Maximilian brings emotive depth with slow-burning folk and chilling synths in latest single Long Time Gone

Maximilian’s latest single, Long Time Gone‘ is finally out. This single marks a bold reinvention for the emerging artist—one that reveals his most expansive and experimental work to date.

Known for his introspective songwriting and gently arresting live sets, Maximilian has steadily cultivated a loyal following since 2021 across Brighton’s alt scene. With ‘Long Time Gone‘, he breaks new ground—both emotionally and sonically—crafting a slow-burning, meditative piece that hums with personal catharsis and newfound musical confidence.

Blending 90s alt textures with quiet, introspective songwriting, ‘Long Time Gone‘ is a big step forward. It’s cinematic and sweeping but still full of heart. Think Elliott Smith meets Big Thief in a room full of synths and harmonicas—two new additions Maximilian plays here for the first time. The tune holds such a chilling and graceful presence, much like a lot of Elliott Smith’s work. But modern fans of similar artists like Adrianne Lenker will appreciate this work even more. Maximilian himself adds that:

This song is quite experimental for me… It’s long and strange… Using synths and a harmonica was really fun and feels very new. I’m really proud to say I played every instrument on this recording.”

That hands-on approach pays off. With production help from Bobby Smyth (Flip Top Head, Hutch) and mixed by Yuri Shibuichi (Honeyglaze, Tapir!), the track builds slowly, winding through hazy melodies and emotive swells. It’s not just a single—it’s a journey.

With a short UK tour lined up—including Brighton’s Green Door Store and London’s Old Blue Last—Maximilian is poised for wider recognition. ‘Long Time Gone‘ isn’t just a song; it’s a turning point.
