ugly ozo’s latest track is a melancholic head-bopper ahead of her debut EP releasing in October
From the self-described “doom gaze” bedroom beats of newcomer ugly ozo, – the moniker of artist Jessica Baker – comes ‘madonna,’ the Isle of Wight native’s latest melancholic, catchy hooked single with London label REXS RECS.
Inspired by the likes of Pretty Sick and Pixies, Baker’s introspection tinged releases are Riot Grrrl reminiscent, and ‘madonna’ is no exception – classic rock attitude with a pop punk appeal.
Set to a no holds barred guitar riff, the single is “a deeply personal and widely resonant ode to sisterhood,” capturing “the “bittersweet feeling of watching someone you love grow into themselves.” Half sung, half confessed, expect head-bopping lyrics cut with strong bass. ‘madonna’ is self-assured, ushering in the next chapter of ugly ozo’s sonic evolution.
