Brighton newcomers Flip Top Head today announce news of their debut EP, ‘Up Like a Weather Balloon’ with new single ‘So Much For Mole Catching’
Formed in Colchester and grown in Brighton, Flip Top Head have today announced news of their anticipated debut EP ‘Up Like A Weather Balloon’, out on 15th November via Blitzcat Records. After catching their set at this year’s Outer Town Festival, we were struck by their dramatic, sincere and wildly impressive performance.
The band have been gathering steam this year, with shows alongside Tapir!, Opus Kink, Honeyglaze, Ugly and many more helping to spread the word. With numerous festival bookings and sold out gigs across the country, now is the time for Flip Top Head to release their first collection of tracks into the world.
The first of these is the charmingly titled ‘So Much For Mole Catching’, immediately conjuring images of the promised “quaint tapestry of forgotten characters and faded stories from a by-gone England”. With a chaotic, triumphant tumble, we find ourselves plonked in a much more mellow and autumnal world, with warm folk textures paired with interesting drum patterns, overlapping plucked guitars and softly spoken vocals.
In a similar way to Ugly, Flip Top Head have nailed the balance between a warm embrace, a rumbly build up and a twitchy climax, yet, refreshingly, their sound is never forcibly edgy or deliberately difficult. ‘Up Like A Weather Balloon’ is set to follow their trajectory so far; impressive and fascinating but never showy and always patient.
