Calderdale band splint continue to surprise with their fourth single ‘Continuing Endless’
Though each of splint’s releases has been becoming subsequently less uplifting, ‘Continuing Endless’ is definitely branching away from the band’s usual style. The track remains true to its name, bringing its listeners on a long marathon through a wide variety of auditory sensations. The only things that are consistent through this journey are the hazy, distant singing and pounding guitars throughout.
To call ‘Continuing Endless’ structured is quite a stretch. It has an ominous beginning that slowly heightens. We are then brought through a hypnotic middle section until the climax occurs. Even at the guitar’s wildest moment, though, Jake Bogack’s vocals are still muted.
The track ends abruptly, like a firework. This firework also spits out musical and visual oddities, seemingly at random. Some of these are familiar to us, others are strange and abstract, and they all are unexpected.
Between the unsteady beginning and the cloudy outro, splint are exploring some exciting new material. This track is not background music, and it requires some intense listening.
