Big Thief’s Adrianne Lenker drops another gorgeous single ahead of the release of her new album ‘Bright Future’, out on 22nd March
There’s great news for all those Big Thief and Adrianne Lenker fans out there. Ahead of her new album, ‘Bright Future‘, out on March 22nd, Lenker has released a new single, titled ‘Fool‘. This will be her first album since 2020’s ‘Songs & Instrumentals, and tells a 12-track story of a journeyed heart.
‘Fool‘ asks questions to a tentative lover and looks for answers, with plucky strings and a sense of pure unadulterated affection. Lenker’s simple yet romantic poetry accompanies a stripped down track and accomplishes something childlike and wholesome. With lyrics like “we could watch a garden grow, we could grow old” and “just say what it is that you want,” the folk singer somehow manages to reach back into one’s salad days. Love doesn’t need to be complicated here, nothing matters but the life to be lived.
The genius of the track is in its seeming simplicity. On first listen it might sound unembellished, but Philip Weinrobe’s thoughtful engineering reveals itself the more you dive into it. The melodies evoke a steady journey, like a walk in the woods with those you love the most. Funnily enough, those are the exact images in the video, directed by Adrianne’s brother, Noah Lenker.
