Ducks Ltd.’s new single ‘Heavy Bag’ has dropped, building the eager release of their second album ‘Harm’s Way’ out on February 9th
The jangle pop duo’s familiar rhythmic melodies are replaced by an acoustic start with the pensive vocals creating shimmering reflections of blue. ‘Heavy Bag’ begins unfiltered, the guitar picking framing the lyrical, melancholy story that’s shaded by reverb undertones.
The tempo creeps up along with the layered string instruments, providing texture to the much-loved pockets of obscurity before picking up to a cordial guitar riff. It’s almost as if you’re sat on a train through the countryside as your sombre daydreaming gets interrupted by spotting someone you love skipping through a field towards a canopy of trees.
There are moments of new-wave and playful indie leaving you emotionally invested. As the track builds, the guitar has you tapping your toes whilst the subdued vocals win you over; the contrast works harmoniously and showcases Ducks Ltd.’s diverse disposition.
The duo’s strong lyrical presence examines relatable themes; it’s a musical hand-hold, reminding you of the universal strains of the human experience.
