London based trio Honeyglaze drop their latest single ‘Cold Caller‘ ahead of their upcoming album ‘Real Deal‘
‘Real Deal’, the new album from Honeyglaze, is set to release September 20th via Fat Possum. The album promises rawness: to grapple between an inner turbulence and a calm exterior.
The new single ‘Cold Caller‘ explores this inner turbulence, following a character stewing in isolation and loneliness. They become more and more obsessed with an anonymous person over the phone, revealing the rejection that simmers just below the surface.
The melodies and bassline bounce along, steady and calming at the beginning. Anouska Sokolow’s vocals are lilting, mellifluous. During the verses she remains a soothing presence as her voice dances over the music. Yet, the chorus reveals glimpses of desperation – both instrumentally and vocally. Pummeling percussion kicks in, Sokolow strains ever so slightly.
The entire song unfurls into this crescendo that unveils the sadness to the character. It could be angry and bitter, but it’s not. There’s a gentleness to the track, even at its most desperate. At times, ‘Cold Caller‘ is reminiscent of Black Country, New Road, but it’s never derivative – it’s just good music.
Alongside this release, Honeyglaze have announced that they will embark on a tour. They will traverse the UK in the autumn before touring Europe at the end of the year. If ‘Cold Caller‘ and previous single ‘Don’t‘ are any indication – it’s set to be a very good time.
