Porches, the musical project of New York-based artist Aaron Maine is coming to Bristol in April
Porches, the musical project of New York-based artist Aaron Maine, is renowned for its unique blend of synth-pop, indie rock, and electronic sounds. Since its emergence in 2010, Porches has evolved, delivering albums that explore themes of youth, identity, and rumination.
Porches will perform at Thekla in Bristol on Tuesday, April 15th 2025, with support from London-based singer, songwriter, and producer MAY. The show was originally scheduled for September 27, 2024, but was postponed due to scheduling conflicts. Last year, on September 13th, 2024, Porches released his latest album ‘Shirt’, via Domino Records, which was recorded in Aaronโs studio in Brooklyn, NYC. The album contains some of his most potent and expansive work yet, reflecting on both the innocence of suburban youth and the precarious reality of adulthood. The use of grungy guitars, punchy drums and bass, interspersed with serene interludes, creates a physical sense of tranquillity and release for the listener. ‘Shirt’ has been received well by critics, with Pitchfork highlighting it as one of the new notable albums upon its release.
The album features a variety of captivating singles. One of the most eminent is the lead single, ‘Joker’, which with its melancholy lyrics and chant-like repetition of โGodโs Graceโ underpins the theme of clandestine relational ambiguity. ‘Shirt’ is Aaronโs first new release since his 2021 album โAll Day Gentle Holdโ (ADGH), aside from his ethereal cover of Harry Stylesโ โAdore Youโ.
Following the release of ADGH Aaron opened a US tour for Phoenix, and the Porches favoured fan-pleaser โCountryโ was later handpicked by Phoenixโs Thomas Mars to feature in Sofia Coppolaโs 2023 film Priscilla. During the last two years, Maine has collaborated with the pop duo Coco & Clair Clair and funk-pop artist Remi Wolf, whilst also appearing as the face of Versace Jeans Couture for their SS23 campaign, alongside creative Talia Goddess.
