The CLUNK SXSW Survival Guide Pre-Order

This year saw us head to SXSW for the first time. This was a pilgrimage for us here at CLUNK, a journey into the promised land so to speak.

SXSW shaped how CLUNK grew and became what it is today all thanks to a video Director Kieran Webber saw one day on Youtube. It was 2013 and the algorithm had decided I was ready to bare witness to the Osees playing a parking lot at SXSW. From there he discovered a love for bands such as Death Valley Girls, Jay Reatard, Ty Segall, and more, all of which led to him wanting to create a music magazine that focused on guitar-driven music. SXSW and the Osees literally helped create CLUNK and what you see before you today.

Upon watching that video Kieran decided that one day he would make it to SXSW and would witness the Osees live, both of these became a reality in 2023 (Kieran even met John Dwyer). The week we spent at SXSW was truly a mesmerizing, life-affirming, and incredible experience, one that will never be forgotten.

This A4 special will act as a journal of sorts, a visual experience of our time in Austin, Texas. We hope that this magazine (or more book tbh) will take you on a journey, our journey but also help anyone who is wanting to visit SXSW in the future.

Throughout the pages, you will find photography of the city of Austin itself, scans of posters and artwork, exclusive interviews with artists such as Prima Queen, The Lounge Society, Panic Shack, and more. It will also be full of never seen photography exclusive only to this zine, including live photography of Osees, Dream Wife, English Teacher, Sports Team, Warmduscher, and SO MANY MORE!

CLUNK Zine 005

The first CLUNK Zine of 2023 is out!

We’re hoping to take CLUNK to the next level across 2023 and CLUNK Zine 005 is setting the tone.

CLUNK 005 sees American punk-rock outfit FIDLAR grace our front page and inside you will find an exclusive interview with Zac Carper (frontman). Zac talks us through the band’s return after a four-year hiatus, mental health, addiction, pressures to live the Fuck It Dog Lifes A Risk mantra, and much more.

There are also interviews with rising indie-pop star Abbie Ozard, who chats about her influences, most extensive tour to date, and lots more. SOFY sits down and delves into her 2023 goals, her unique art style, and the misconceptions of what life as a musician is like. Langkamer also have a chat about their new album, tour essentials, and food theft.

In addition to this, you will find interviews with Backseat Lovers, JW Francis, and Lip Filler.

In terms of features, there is plenty for you to indulge in such as our photographer highlight that features London-based photographer Max Dillon. A very special feature curated by artist, musician, photographer, DJ, and all-around creative Tula Gartmayer, titled Boys In Dresses: Make Way For The Femboys. This photography series aims to shine a light on issues around societal ideologies surrounding gender conformity and gender stereotypes by showcasing masculine characters in dresses and other ‘feminine’ attire. It’s provocative, fun, and challenges the social construct we live in, whilst being incredibly pleasing to the eye and heart.

There is also an exclusive write-up about The Rills debut show in the student town of Falmouth at the Cornish bank, as part of IVW. The feature on the band will have quotes from the band where they chat about sea swimming on Gylly Beach, social media, and what they think about the haters.

There is also the return of our album reviews from Luke James as well as a variety of live reviews and photography from shows featuring Maja Lena, and English Teacher.

CLUNK Zine 005 will be available for general sale on March 2nd and we finally ship internationally!

Our final zine of 2022 has arrived!

It’s been a wild ride and truthfully we never thought we would get this far, thank you all so much for your continued support and love. We always say this but you truly do not know how much it means to us.

With Zine 004 we go out with a real bang and have packed it with as much juicy content as possible. We’ve got interviews with Mandrake Handshake, Lauran Hibberd, DEADLETTER, Swim Deep, Jaws The Shark, and more!
