5 Acts To Look Out For At A Stone’s Throw Festival

Isabel McDermott

Hello! I’m Isabel, an aspiring music writer and full-time Philosophy student from Bradford.

With shame leading the way, we take a look at the stacked lineup for Newcastle’s ‘A Stone’s Throw’ Festival

Newcastle’s A Stone’s Throw Festival has a stacked lineup with artists from a wide range of different genres and locations to create an eclectic mix to get excited for. Here are 5 acts to look out for if you are attending the festival!

White Flowers

Currently supporting Doves on their ‘Constellations of the Lonely’ tour, White Flowers are a Preston-based band who are proving to be an extremely exciting band in the UK music scene, and definitely one to look out for. Their dreamy, electronica sound blends perfectly with their rocky sound in tracks like ‘Night Drive’ from their debut album ‘Day by Day’.

Katie Drew’s beautiful whimsical vocals compliment every track and are sure to create a brilliant atmosphere in the spring sunshine.

Psychedelic Porn Crumpets

The Australian psychedelic rock band will be gracing the festival’s stage with their energetic, colourful sound and electric guitar riffs. Since their debut in 2014, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets have been creating vibrant and interesting albums from ‘High Visceral (Part One) in 2016 to their most recent ‘Fronzoli’ in 2023.

In 2025, they are set to tour Australia, USA and the UK, with A Stone’s Throw Festival being just another opportunity to showcase their brilliant performance and refreshing, unusual sound.

Pit Pony

Now, moving closer to home, Newcastle-based Pit Pony have proven their live performing ability through touring with the likes of IDLES and festivals like The Last Train Home. Always keen to keep to their North-East roots, the band use their life experiences and cultural identities to inform their musical exploration.

Their latest album ‘Dead Stars’ was released in February of this year and provides a post-punk sound combined with Jackie’s expressive and vulnerable lyrics.

Courtney Dixon

Hailing from South Shields, Courtney Dixon is another North-East based artist, but bringing a different sound with her indie-pop, rock inspired bangers. Her unique and imaginative image goes beyond her fizzy-pop sound, and is developed in her stylish visuals and stage presence. The musical inspirations seep through in her look and sound, with PJ Harvey and Blondie being cited as some of the influences on her distinctive sound.

Her latest single ‘You Look Good Naked’ is exciting and is a combination her cool style and indie-rock influences. Courtney Dixon should prove to have a great performance on a Stone’s Throw stage.

shame

Headlining the festival is South-London’s shame, a band who provide punchy lyrics and spiky rhythms and are sure to bring this energy to the Stone’s Throw stage. Previous tours have proven shame are more than capable of the top billing, with a riot of raucous music to get the crowds bouncing in Newcastle.

With their 2023 album ‘Food For Worms’, the band have developed from their more youthful, punky sound; it will be interesting to see live performances of their music new and old, seeing first-hand their musical progression.

A Stone’s Throw Festival will take place from 23rd-25th May in North Shields, Newcastle.
