Californian garage rock newbie brings forward a sound that is familiar yet always welcomed with new single ‘Carts In The Rain’
It’s no secret that California is a hub for garage rock with artists such as Ty Segall, Osees, Charles Moothart, and many more call it home. It’s safe to say there is a strong scene in those there hills and artists such as Acid Smoothie are proof that it is nowhere near done yet. As you’d expect, his music is a frantic, fuzz filled, reverb drenched parcel that continuously delivers tongue-in-cheek lyrics through a slacker voice.
The solo project created by Paul Dunne recently released the debut album ‘Carts In The Rain’, a collection of re-recordings from previous projects such as Franciscan Honey, javahead, Cruise Torts and spliffolympics. However, today we are focusing on the lead single ‘Still Standing Still’, an explosive track that comes out full throttle, cascading guitar comes crashing down whilst punchy vocals slap you right in the chops. The energy levels stay high throughout, giving the listener a real sonic sprint making a track that is garage rock personified. If you’re a fan of Iguana Death Cult or Warmduscher, then you HAVE to check out Acid Smoothie.
What’s more impressive about this release is that all this energy comes from just one person, Paul himself who is a multi-instrumentalist. It’s an incredible feat to bring all this energy to every element of his project and to then throw it together and it all come out coherent. On top of this, Paul (Acid Smoothie) has recently announced that all profits made from the debut album ‘Carts In the Rain’ on Bandcamp will be donated to the ACLU in support of Immigrant rights, which are currently under attack in the US, and in this country too.
